I focused on the grass in the front and used the P mode for auto-exposure. Obviously the camera had chosen, on my behalf, a rather large aperture on this overcast fall day, thus rendering the far-away trees slightly out of focus, but not enough out-of-focus to bring back the audience from the background. No wonder serious photographers carry a tripod (and use them) everywhere. I'm not a tripod guy (yet). I tend to move quickly and try out different compositions (a sign of not enough confidence, or maybe, a complete lack of understanding of the object), and I usually don't have much time, which are counter-conducive to good photographs. Another excellent example of a bad picture.
