| Seam Reap |
Seam Reap might be the city in Cambodia getting the biggest share of the tourist income because of the now famous Angkor Wat, well known because of the movie Tomb Raider (lots of famous tourist attractions are due to Hollywood movies -- the Petra is another example!). This was evident from the modern motor vehicles in the background of this picture. Yet the disparity between the have's and the have-not's were still great. This lovely young girl shouldn't be here, yet we could imagine she had to ride her parent's recycling cart day in day out, going along the route waiting for her dad and her brother (in the background) to salvage the residue value from the garbage heaps. There was not a hint of sadness in her eyes, she was just curious as why this strange alien man with the big black camera was clicking away at her. The old bill in her hand likely was the pacifier that would keep her planted in the heap of stuff in the cart, in anticipation for an exchange for a treat to reward her patience. Throughout our 30 seconds encounter, she had kept her friendly stare and her friendly smile, so did her parent and brother.
