I still cannot explain the mist over the water, but it was only a very light mist barely on the surface of the lake. The sun is out, so the mist would not stay long. In fact it was only visible over the part of the lake where the line of tress cast their shadows. In other parts, it was just too bright and the mist was obscure. I found the right exposure of this scene to be very difficult to determine. I'm glad I shot RAW, giving me a little more latitude in my post-processing. And yes, I have to do a bit of post processing in order to bring out the scene I remember. May be the way it is now, it is very unreal.
