Cairo, Egypt |
The recent incident in Egypt reminded me of the people I'd met in Cairo. These friendly guys were enjoying their evening in this apparently single-purpose smoking parlor. They were smoking from the very-common-in-the-middle-east water pipes. At the very end of the room, the bar tender would prepare red-hot charcoal chunks to be placed on top of the water pipes, where tobacco leaves were burnt and smoked. Most of the patrons were staying outside, likely for the cooler air, leaving only two here enjoying the tranquilness inside. These Egyptians were all very friendly, even offering me a puff of their pipe, and of course never minding me taking pictures of them in the shop. I remember these friendly Egyptians and they deserve the freedom that hopefully would materialize eventually.
