Painting versus Photography
I tried doing painting. It isn't easy. The easy part about painting is you can just paint without regards to reality. You just paint what's in your mind. Black rocks, blue water, white turfs, of any tonal value. No one will query it's reality, either they like what you do or they don't. With photography (at least that's what I think), you have to be real. Or at least the viewer would not go "oh, another PS'ed work".
